Movin' It: All About Our 90's Themed Workshop With MovedLA

Movin' It: All About Our 90's Themed Workshop With MovedLA

2018, am I right? Perhaps it’s said every year, but particularly this felt like a year filled with so much strife and struggle — on personal levels as well as globally. In those moments it seems tougher than ever to put yourself out there, to be positive, to dive headfirst into the things you love and things that are most productive, but it’s also the time that doing all those things is most important. That said, when Sarah Rodenhouse of MovedLA asked us to once again collaborate on a creative movement workshop, we couldn’t say yes fast enough.

Around that time, our state of California battled several deadly wildfires simultaneously. Like so many others, we found ourselves wanting to do something to help our community. We decided to offer a portion of proceeds from the event to the United Way of Los Angeles, who boasts a wildfire relief fund in addition to the tireless work they do with our local homeless community. Because we also wanted the event to feel like an accessible, fun, and much needed respite, so we decided to create a 90’s theme for the class, which includes tons of team building exercises (great for private parties and corporative events, by the way) as well as getting you out of your own way to embrace your organic movement instincts.

Thursday, November 29th, we welcomed an incredible group of 24 new and old friends who enjoyed Pinot Noir from local winemaker Rachel Silkowski from Say When wines, bubbles from Underwood, pizza, a portrait session from Bree McCool, tie-dye grip socks from Pointe Studio, and a raffle with prizes from our friends at Ban.do, Scout Books, Say When, Wax Paper, Richer Poorer, and Fine Ass Lines. We also grooved to a playlist (curated by our guests) with 90’s jams by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Zhané, Suzanne Vega, The Cranberries, and more.

You can see from the photos below — all taken by the talented Bree McCool — the joy was absolutely contagious — and much needed. We also got to hand United Way a check for $100, thanks to raffle ticket sales (huge thanks to our donors!). Enjoy these greatest hits, and if you didn’t make it out this time, find our Spotify list below and have your own movement party wherever you are.

A playlist featuring Lenny Kravitz, Zhané, Daft Punk, and others
